Too Large for the Barge
Welcome to Too Large for the Barge. There are several animals both big and small eager to cross the river, but your boats are precarious. Just a bit too much weight on one side can topple the boat and send it sinking down to the riverbed, leaving you with some very angry and very wet customers.
Hamsters, cats and more await your help. Can you get them where they need to be and finally prove that no creature is too large for the barge?
About the Game
This game was created for the GMTK Game Jam 2024.
Too Large for the Barge is a puzzle game where you provide river cruises to animals of a variety of sizes and weights. Use logic to deduce how heavy each animal is by making test runs. If one side is too heavy, the boat will sink. Your customers might be angry, but this is valuable knowledge you can use to perfect the voyage and get all the animals across.
If that sounds like it's for you, add it to your collection, and follow Alackaday Games for updates.

How to Play
There's a tutorial in the game which covers all this. It's in the How to Play menu!
- Animals will appear on the dock at the bottom of the screen.
- Click and drag an animal to the left or right side of the boat to place it.
- Click reset to return all the animals to the dock.
- Click the Launch button to see if your boat floats. If one side is heavier than the other, the boat will tip and sink.
- The Crossing Log will keep a record of your attempts. Use it to see at a glance which animal combinations were heavier than others.
- If you manage to balance the weight of the animals between both sides equally then you will have a successful voyage.
- But now more animals need to get on the vote, and they're much bigger. Take what you've learned and get experimenting.
Controls
- Click and drag animals to move them from the dock to the left or right sides of the boat. You can click and drag to put them back.
- Click the Launch button when you're ready to find out if your ship is balanced.
- Click the Reset button to return all the animals to the dock.
